If you had to describe yourself in one word what would it be? Passionate
5 things you are passionate about? Family, Yoga, Exercise, Fashion, Community - Just all things in life really :)
What does Yoga mean to you? Yoga for me is a lot things. It is my best friend, it is there for me when in the good times & the bad. It confronts me, yet allows me to learn to love & accept myself everyday. When I do yoga I feel the best in my mind, my body & my energy. Yoga for me is my chance to have time with myself & have the space to breath & connect to my body physically & mentally. Yoga has allowed me to find my true authentic self & allows me to continue to learn about her everyday.
How long has Yoga been apart of your life? Yoga has been in my life since I was 19 years old. 6 years
How did Yoga come into your life? After turning 18 and trying my best to keep up with the party life – I quickly learnt it was not for me as I had so many issues in my body & I was always sad. So in my search to find how to be happy, fit and healthy I started to get back into the gym & started running as my goal was to run 10km. With all the training I wanted to have a good “stretch” twice a week & also mum was doing yoga, so ofcourse I wanted to do yoga too. I soon became obsessed with the practice & here I am 6 years later still with the same obsession.
What was your first class like and what made you go to your second class? My First yoga class was a Yin yoga class… it was slow, dark & I felt super frustrated at the things the teacher spoke about & also at the fact that I couldn’t touch my toes when he took us into a seated forward fold. I can honestly remember the class so clear in my mind & I was not having a good time at all. I actually think I hated it. What made me go my second class was my mum taking me to a hot Vinyasa class which I also hated – I left the room 2 times because I found it really hard. The flow & all the movements were so challenging & that is exactly why I am still doing it. I am someone who is driven by challenge & yoga always challenges me, on and off the mat. This is why I always come back for more because there always more to learn – not only in your body but also in your mind.
What is the posture you love the most? Pincha Mayurasana – Forearm Balance
What is the posture you love the least? Kapotasana – Pigeon Pose
What is your teaching intention? My teaching intention changes every class as every class is different & I think that it is important to always feel into that. My promise to my students is to always lead my classes with authenticity & to always have fun.
What are words your students would quote you by? Well that again truly depends on how the energy in the room is on the day & how I am feeling…
Somedays its “commit to the fall” other days its “allow yourself to be exactly where you are RIGHT NOW”
Anything else you want to add? To whoever reads this – thank you for following me along my journey & for choosing to be apart of our Ara Family. I hope to that our classes & what we share can lead you into not only a yoga practice but also into a community where you can always be your true authentic self. Namaste xxx
